From North - Glasgow/Prestwick - take M77/A77 south towards Stranraer / Girvan - at roundabout just before Girvan take 1st exit signposted Barr Follow B734 for 3 miles, sharp left hand bend and take immediate right turn for Barr. Up hill and take 2nd turning on left (signposted Barr) Follow this road 4 miles over the hills with wonderful views of the Stinchar Valley - come down 'The Screws' into the pretty conservation village of Barr. Drive straight through the village, past Church, Bowling Green, and The Kings Arm hotel keeping the river on the right. From South - Carlisle/Newton Stewert - Satellite Navigation systems will take you many different ways we have found the following route consistently the fastest ! From Carlise M74/ follow the A75 to Stranraer. At Newton Stewert turn right into Newton Stewert at end of High Street bare left to Girvan on the B714. Continue for 13 miles through Barrhill to Pinwherry. Go through Pinwherry, under Viaduct and shortly after take first right hand turn to Barr. Over bridge and keep right then follow this small country road 6 miles over hills into the pretty conservation village of Barr. On coming into the village, turn right at T Junction and proceed past the Kings Arms Hotel From Barr village to Changue House 1.5 miles At the hotel go straight on into Changue Road and pass the school. Stay on this lane with river on right. You will pass Lockston Cottage on the bend before the road becomes a forestry commission track. Continue straight on keeping river to right, past a small house and cabin on left, past Craigmallcoh Farm (your sat nav will say you have arrived …don't worry you are not quite there yet !) Over bridge and Changue House is at the end of the track clearly signposted on the Right Hand side Driving from England and the south takes approximately 2˝ hours from Gretna Green along the A75. Designs Gallery and Cafe at Castle Douglas is a great stopping off point. It is the Food Town of Scotland or alternatively Café Cree in Newton Stewart. Also en route on A75 at Carsluith Castle is Marrbury Smokehouse - the best smoked salmon in Scotland and a great place for a bite to eat or collect a picnic.
